I gave up trying to find a suitable art box to lug my art stuff around in.
I have too much stuff to fit into my purse and too little to necessitate an entire tackle box so after cleaning out the otherwise unused downstairs room and transforming it into a work space, I found a couple of old pencil cases given to me a while back and altered one to make a usable case for lugging my art stuff around.

.....then I made pom-poms....

I finished another little ceramic thing....well, I glazed the head and knitted a body for it , it's not finished yet, still needs feet and a hood. anyway, here it is before I brake the bloody thing.

six weeks later....

A couple of weeks ago, following my successful first attempt at cutting hair, I felt I had done such a stellar job that I needed to cut more things! After a moment's contemplation and the realization that under no circumstances would it be forgivable of me to try and trim lightning bolts into my friend's cat, I came to the inevitable next step: SPIDERS!

He's perhaps a little more "huggable" than I had hoped.

Aye Aye

This is the self portrait I started yesterday after yet another morning of what feels like pointless searching for someone willing to represent my silly arse in the world of Children's illustration.
The problem I have found is that either you are insanely talented and then able to find an agency willing to represent you, or you are perhaps less talented but have an amazing head for business and are able to market yourself, or you've been published before, which somehow makes you more valuable than those of us just starting out. I fall somewhere in the middle, I am better than most, but not good enough that people are jumping to represent me, and I am completely crap at business and have no marketing skills what so ever. And as for being previously published? Thats something of a grey area.

....Theres something really funky going on with that eye up there, I should probably fix that.

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

While on the subject of weddings....

A wedding present for my friends, Christina and Julia who got married last October. The idea came from a picture of a unicorn, named Prescilla, Julia did in paint on her computer and emailed to me a couple of years ago.
....I will have to find the email!

Guest book.

I love Weddings, more people should get married so that I can do more of this!

frosted bunnies!

the bunnies now have emily and neil glasses,  soon they will be covered in cake frosting! mmmm, bunnies and frosting....

Starfish Headband of Awesomeness!

This is the Headband I made for Emily's wedding, but it might be too large :(
either way, I think I will wear it everyday.

last thing.... Jennifer Young put together an art show at the Highland Inn Lounge a few weeks ago. I wish I had more pictures of the actual show, heres my contribution. the flyer is by Jennifer.
(I was the last to hang my stuff....so I got the wall with the electrical cord. but I think it adds something to the overall affect (or is it effect, should probably have paid more attention in school)).
Today I went to the Puppetry Center (which happens to be one of my favorite places in the city). An actor friend is participating in the Xperimental Puppetry Theater project (XPT) that the center puts on each year. I was recruited to help make the puppets and sets, all of which are to be made of cardboard. The Play itself is based on the absurdist play Rhinoceros, in which all the characters are turned into Rhinoceroses through mass thought (I think). For anyone who has ever tried to build anything substantial out of cardboard, it's not nearly as easy as you might think!

This is probably one of the strangest things I've been asked to do in a while at least.
The woman who commissioned this from me wanted her husband's co-worker's to be portrayed as bunnies. I wish I had a better picture of it. it's just weird.

This is a jacket patch I created for a friend's son's birthday. The design is logo for his school's theater group.
This is actually my third attempt at a blog.
I hold a secret hatred of blogs but have decided to give it one more go as a way of keeping track of both the random projects I volunteer for and the stranger of the jobs I take on.
